Life is not about one’s legacy or otherwise, what it is about, is how it is lived – how much integrity, authenticity and creative vitality filled these numbered days, these unrepeatable hours. How we spend it, in each moment, whilst there are infinite kinds of beautiful lives, we have to take on the role of making ours beautiful.
No one but ourselves can build that path on which you, and only you, can walk; on your journey through life.
It is up to us to make the choice as to how we do it, directed as we are by past values, of our up bringing, the template of our culture, we must go inside ourselves and find our own place. To lose who we are in these imprints is to lose who we truly are, for we cannot use other people’s experience.
In order to use our own experiences, to learn from them so that our lives may broaden and deepen, we must first learn to trust ourselves; developing a “feeling within” of “what is true and what is false” without the need to judge what is right or wrong in our perceptions.
The mind is the crucible and cauldron of experience and perception, there is no greater waste of life than allowing the inattentive mind to guide us on any path. For example:
Peace without passion is not peace—it is a slow death.
For peace without passion holds no excitement, no challenges, so the spirit dissipates in the senseless waste of our energies, which too often leads to fatigue and the depletion of our spirits.
Living is the body that trembles with aliveness, it is our shen, our spirit that animates that aliveness. In a consumerist culture, this trembling is suppressed, but each one of us has the ability to lift ourselves walking in the woods or on the beach, listening to the wind and rain, the so called purposeless play of the mind daydreaming and dancing, whilst at the same time cultivating resilience within.
One day one might look at the tragedy that unfolds on our screens, smile and know that:
“It is no longer my job to fix this. It is no longer my responsibility to keep this alive.”
My role in life is simply to live and to enjoy; and whatever is essential to life and enjoyment will come as naturally as the rain from the clouds that surround me. Enjoy
